Smoke Chamber Parging and Repair in Rockwall, TX
The smoke chamber is the inverted funnel-shaped transition area between your fireplace firebox and the chimney flue. When constructed with corbelled (stepped) brick, it creates turbulent airflow and traps hazardous creosote. Hearthguard specializes in parging smoke chambers smooth with insulating refractory mortar.

Call (469) 273-6683Why Smoke Chamber Parging Is Essential
- Enhanced Fire Safety: Refractory mortar insulates nearby combustible framing against intense heat.
- Code Compliance: Modern building codes (NFPA 211) require smooth parged smoke chamber walls.
- Improved Draft: Eliminates eddies and turbulence, pulling smoke quickly up the flue instead of back into your room.
- Reduced Creosote Buildup: A smooth surface prevents soot and creosote from clinging to jagged mortar shelves.
Our Restoration Process
During an in-depth chimney inspection, we examine the smoke chamber with specialized cameras. We then trowel high-temperature refractory mortar over corbelled brickwork, sealing all cracks and holes. Learn more about our comprehensive chimney repair capabilities.
